Tournedos with mushrooms, baked patatoes and broccoli sounds pretty basic. However, I can be picky about my steak. As you probably know, a steak’s degree of cooking usually is rare, medium, or well-done. In France they serve an additional option called “blue” (or very rare): quickly flip over your steak twice; only for people who are into the blood department. I’m not. My ideal steak should in fact be medium-rare, as I explained to the friendly waitress.
Expecting the default medium variant, it turned out to be a perfect medium-rare steak. Moreover, it was the high-quality kind which texture leaves pleasant sensations in your mouth before it easily and blissfully dissolves, ready for an effortless swallow.
Restaurant “De Zon”, Schoutenstraat 15 in Utrecht, has a small but cosy “trottoir” (i.e. on the curb) terras, which overlooks Neude square. Its personnell is competent and attentive. If they ask you whether you enjoy your meal, you feel they really mean it. Furthermore, our table was a little bit wobbly, a waiter noticed this and corrected it. Nice guesture, I guarantee you’ll feel right at home.
However wonderful the tournedos was, nothing could have prepared us for the grand finale. Words are pathetically inadequate to describe our dessert experience: baklava with whipped cream. Just go and taste it!
