Yesterday, I saw the movie The Island starring Ewan McGregor as Lincoln Six Echo, and Scarlett Johansson as Jordan Two Delta. Lincoln and Jordan, like many others, live inside a seemingly perfect hightech institute, safely hidden from the contaminated outside world. Occasionaly, there is a lottery and the happy winner is allowed to go to The Island, the only place outside which is not contaminated.
Lincoln finds out that going to The Island actually means that you get killed and your organs are commercially harvested. The institute is in fact a clone factory run by ruthless industrialists, who have rich people as their clients. Lincoln flees the institute and drags his female friend, and later love interest, Jordan with him, relentlessly pursued by the forces of the institute.
At times, The Island remembered me of 1984 and the Matrix, but it is definitely worth watching. Never a dull moment. Great digitally animated action scenes, neat displays of possible future technologies, a bit of humour, and the beautiful Scarlett. Who needs more?
